WhatsApp wants to introduce a new feature so that users can edit their videos and photos even more individually. A new tool has appeared in the beta version of the Android variant: the eraser. WhatsApp has a particular focus on the protection of privacy.

WhatsApp with eraser for photos and videos
WhatsApp would like to allow its users to customize images and videos. In the current beta version of the Android version, new functions have now appeared that have been available in the iOS version for some time. In addition to more selection of brushes, an eraser is also available. With that you can Blur parts of the image, which can benefit privacy. Telephone numbers or addresses can easily be erased in this way.
To access the eraser, first tap the pencil icon. Subsequently, in different strengths swiped across the smartphone screen to make parts of the photo or video unrecognizable (source: WABetaInfo). This can be worthwhile, for example, for car license plates – or if you prefer to make a person unrecognizable. Previously, a separate app had to be used for this. Now users can stay on WhatsApp for editing.
Due to the different strengths of the eraser, you can also erase relatively small areas of a photo or video. If, on the other hand, only a small part should remain visible, it is worth using the thickest pencil.

WhatsApp eraser: beta version is the beginning
In the final version of WhatsApp for Android the tool described cannot be found yet. Instead, they are only testing Meta (formerly Facebook) as the app’s operator in the beta version (2.22.7.1), which is available through the Google Play Beta Program. WhatsApp has not yet announced when the eraser will be available to all users.
