WhatsApp gives select users a lot more power

WhatsApp is regularly updated with new features. This time, Messenger unlocks more rights for certain users, giving them significantly more power over other people. This can have positive, but also negative effects on the messenger.

WhatsApp: Admins can delete everything

Update from August 2, 2022: First time admins can delete everything in the trial version of WhatsApp. According to WABetaInfo, the new function is now being rolled out for some users. The final rollout for everyone is still pending.

Original item:

If you set up a group in WhatsApp and are stored there as an admin, you get a lot more power in Messenger. So far, of course, it was already the case that founders had the option of removing members from a group if they were not behaving themselves. In the latest beta version of WhatsApp, however, they receive significantly more power. Admins can delete all messages there – even if the admin did not write the message himself (source: WABetaInfo).

Of course, this creates new opportunities for administrators of a WhatsApp group to bring order to a group. unwanted Messages, pictures, videos or voice messages can be easily deleted by the person responsible for the group – no matter how old the content is. In this way you can create order if some members cannot behave themselves, but you do not want to remove them directly from the group.

On the other hand, an admin can of course also delete content that he doesn’t like himself and thus perhaps conceal certain things. If an admin deletes something, it will only be displayed there that it was deleted by the admin. So you can couldn’t find out what was there, unless you happen to have taken a screenshot at the time. The content is then automatically deleted for everyone and is no longer visible. The function is still under development, but it should be available soon.

WhatsApp users can also delete messages

This gives admins of WhatsApp groups more options. Normal WhatsApp users who are only members of groups can still delete their messages themselves for a certain period of time. Nothing will change in this function for the time being.
