The messenger WhatsApp has announced that it will update the service’s terms of use and privacy policy. This is in response to the new EU regulations “Digital Services Act” and “Digital Markets Act”.
Nothing should really change for users, writes the WhatsApp blog Wabetainfo. However, the new guidelines should contain guidelines that provide information about what is allowed and what is prohibited in the app.
The updated guidelines apply from April 11, 2024 and in order to continue using WhatsApp to its full extent, you must agree to the adjustments. A corresponding request should then appear in your app.
There are consequences
If you don’t agree, you will probably only be able to use WhatsApp to a limited extent, as Wabetainfo suggests. In this case, you will have to “explore alternative account options”. However, Wabetainfo does not write what exactly is meant by this. You may no longer be able to use some important functions in WhatsApp, or you may no longer be able to access chats.
