The instant messaging application WhatsApp will soon offer a few more image editing tools. It is currently possible to draw with a finger on an image or a video, but it is only possible to change the color of the line. Impossible to change the size of the pencil, which sometimes forces you to do it twice (or moreā€¦). This should change soon. WhatsApp has planned to add additional pencil size options.

New features are coming soon in the Beta version

As spotted by the site WABetainfo, WhatsApp plans to add two new drawing pencil sizes, bringing the total to three. This will allow you to obtain a thinner or wider line, as desired. The new stroke sizes will be available directly from the image editor accessible before sending the photo, as can be seen in this screenshot.

But that’s not all. WhatsApp is also working on a new feature that will allow users to blur all or part of the image before sending it. This is already present on iOS where an additional rasterization tool is integrated into the editor. This option would of course have its place on the Android version of the application. The possibility of blurring images directly from the image editor is very practical to maintain a certain confidentiality, for example to blur a face or a number.

WhatsApp has been working on new features and improvements over the past few months. The app recently added a feature that lets you listen to your voicemail messages before sending them, as well as play them in the background. Other new features have been added, such as options for ephemeral messages, or the integration of Novi Wallet for payments in the United States.

At the moment, these drawing features are still under development. They are not currently present in the latest Beta version available in France on Android, 2.22.3.5. They will first be offered to beta testers, before arriving on the stable version of the application.
