  • Since the latest update, you can link an email address to your WhatsApp account.
  • If you are temporarily unable to receive the 6-digit code via SMS, the email address serves as an additional access option.
  • The feature is an optional additional function. Registration still requires a telephone number.

With the latest WhatsApp update for the iPhone, a new section under the name “Email address” appears in your account settings, reports the fan blog WABetaInfo.

There you can enter an email address and link it to your WhatsApp account. From now on, this can be used as an alternative access option for your account.

Email is additional registration option

If you temporarily do not have access to your registered phone number or have difficulty receiving the 6-digit code via SMS, the email address can be a useful alternative. The function is optional and is not a requirement.

It should be noted that while linking an email address to the WhatsApp account provides an additional way to log in, a phone number is still required to create a new account.

The function is currently only available on the iPhone. The prerequisite for this is version 23.24.70. It remains to be seen when the feature will also reach Android phones. Passkeys, another convenient new way to log in to WhatsApp, is already available.
