Whatsapp update: now delete embarrassing messages for two days

Have you sent a message that you later regret? No problem, thanks to a new Whatsapp update you now have two days to delete the message for you and the recipient.

It can happen quickly – you want to send a private message, for example to your partner, but accidentally chose the wrong addressee. Fortunately, Whatsapp offers the option of deleting sent messages for you and the recipient. And you have a lot more time for that from now on.

Previously, the timeframe for deleting messages was just over an hour. But with the latest Whatsapp update, this period has been extended to over two days. Plenty of time to delete the embarrassing messages, but of course there is also the risk that the message has long since been read by the recipient by this time.

Whatsapp does not specify exactly how long the time frame is. But WABetaInfo writes on Twitter that it should even be 36 hours.

But there is also a catch: In order for the message to really be displayed as deleted by the recipient, the recipient must have updated Whatsapp to the current version. And you won’t get a notification if that’s not the case.

  6. Your message’s balloon remains, but only contains the message “You deleted this message”.
