WhatsApp continues its transformation to become your essential messaging application. To do this, the software will have a redesigned call interface with a section for favorite contacts.
With its 2 billion users across the globe, WhatsApp has become one of the most popular messaging solutions on the planet. To maintain this position, its parent company Meta regularly adds new features. After integrating generative AI or conversation filters, the software will soon gain a way to sort its “favorite” contacts.
More convenient calls on WhatsApp
As noted by the WBI site, the latest beta version of WhatsApp includes code suggesting a system for managing favorite contacts within the “Call” tab. Very concretely, this would allow certain discussion groups or certain conversations to be placed in a dedicated list to launch videos in 2 clicks. This list of favorite contacts would appear, it would seem, only in the call tab and would therefore serve more or less as an equivalent to the “quick call” function of our phones of yesteryear.
It will probably be possible to manage this list of favorite contacts within the application settings in a new dedicated section. The latter will allow you to add or delete contacts and even change the order in which they are displayed to always have the most important recipients at your fingertips.
Currently, the “Calls” section of WhatsApp only shows call history and clicking the button to start a new conversation brings up the 5 most frequent contacts. It is impossible to filter or designate quickly callable contacts, and it is this gap that this functionality seeks to fill.
The all-purpose app?
If the functionality is not yet deployed, it will surely be in the next updates of the application, with the Android version which will serve as a test. With this new addition, WhatsApp is moving even closer to a “classic” phone application that has long allowed you to designate and display your most important contacts.
No doubt Meta wants to make its application a universal hub for all communications, whether in text, audio or video format. No more need to go through the good old telephone network, WhatsApp will offer the same advantages as your pre-installed telephone application, in addition to offering superior call quality and generating no costs during international communications.
Meta therefore takes care of WhatsApp’s all-purpose application status, which risks further strengthening when messaging also integrates discussions from third-party services, as required by the new European rules.
