WhatsApp will mute calls from unknown numbers

Bad news for scammers, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature to automatically silence calls from unknown numbers.

WhatsApp’s latest feature allows you to Automatically mute incoming calls from an unknown number. This is available now, unlike most features that go through the beta channel first. The setting is available by going to WhatsApp’s settings, clicking “Privacy”, selecting “Calls” and enabling the “Mute unknown callers” checkbox.

The purpose of the feature is simple: filter spam, scams and calls from unknown people for better protection. The number of scams has multiplied on the application in recent years, so the arrival of such a feature should increase user security. WhatsApp is by far one of the most targeted applications by hackers.

In addition to silencing the calls, WhatsApp also introduces a feature called Privacy Checkup. By selecting ‘Start Monitoring’ in your privacy settings, you’ll navigate through multiple layers of privacy that increase the security of your messages, calls and personal information,” the company said. This provides access to options such as “Choose who can contact you”, “Control your personal information”, “Add more privacy to your chats” and “Add more protection to your account”.

These new tools will likely be welcomed by WhatsApp users, many of whom have been inundated with unsolicited calls and messages over the past few months. All you have to do is download the latest update of the application to take advantage of these new features. If these are not yet available, it is probably because their deployment is progressive, so we will have to wait a little longer.
