WhatsApp: you don’t use the statuses? The app will do everything to push you there

Shunned by most users, WhatsApp statuses will soon take a serious boost. What popularize them?

The changes listed below are being rolled out through an update.

WhatsApp is constantly adding new features to stay up to date. If the Stories work rather well on Instagram, even on Facebook, the same cannot be said for the instant messaging application of Meta (or at Signal). Few people use this feature on the platform, here called Statuses.

But with the arrival of no less than 5 new features through a patch that will arrive to everyone in the coming days, this could well change.

Improvements in substance and form

First of all, it will now be possible to record a voice status of up to 30 seconds. Enough to complete the most classic statuses in the form of images or texts. Then, it will be possible to react quickly to the statuses of others. As for a message, 8 emojis are offered, always with the possibility of responding in a more complete way with text, a sticker or a voice message.

Similar to Instagram, status rings will now be displayed around a contact’s profile picture with an active status. As a reminder, the statutes last 24 hours. What to see more easily who is using the feature at a glance (within discussion lists, group member lists and contact information
). Also on the visual side, when a link is published in a status, a preview of the content of said link will be displayed. As for messages, always.

Finally, to help better manage your private life, a private audience selector will be included. Practice not to share anything with anyone. WhatsApp specifies that the audience selected last will be saved and used by default for the next status.
