Police are conducting a massive search for football rioters

More than 200 cases have now been initiated following riots and physical altercations during a football match between FC Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt. Extensive video material was evaluated to investigate crimes and identify suspects, the police said. “So far, a total of 212 proceedings have been initiated, including for serious breach of the peace, grievous bodily harm, physical attacks on law enforcement officers and insults.”
143 suspects have been identified. The police are now trying to find the other 69 people with the help of photos published on the Internet to determine. According to “Bild”, it is the biggest manhunt for a Bundesliga game that has ever existed.
“Football games are also not a legal vacuum. Anyone who blatantly intentionally attacks and even injures other people must expect criminal prosecution. We do everything we can to investigate such acts and report them. My colleagues have had a lot of work with this in recent times “But I’m sure it was worth the effort,” said Gelsenkirchen Police Chief Tim Frommeyer, according to the statement.
After the Bundesliga game (2:2) between Schalke and Frankfurt on May 20th last year, there were riots in which, according to the police, a German Red Cross employee, several police officers and at least 18 other, mostly uninvolved spectators were injured . A woman and a man had to be taken to hospital and undergo surgery. The Gelsenkirchen police said they had subsequently set up an investigative commission.
