when to send schoolchildren home

Since the start of the school year, confirmed cases of covid-19 have continued to increase in children. But under what criteria should children be sent home?

Only three weeks after the start of the school year, the results are already very heavy. According to the latest figures communicated by the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, this Wednesday, September 16, 81 schools and 2,100 classes had already closed their doors. A pandemic that is spreading very quickly according to the weekly reports published by some academies, every weekend. For that of Versailles, it reported, on September 11, 87 classes and 4 schools closed in primary, as well as 3 classes in colleges and high schools, without closure of establishment.

An increase in cases that questions. In primary school, children do not wear masks but there is a risk of contamination between the students. In middle and high schools, schoolchildren and teachers wear masks. As soon as a pupil tests positive, we will only be interested in people with whom he has been in contact, whether in the canteen or at recess, without a mask.

Each establishment decides on the procedure to follow

In elementary schools, closing a class may be indicated when there is a confirmed case of covid-19. If the child tested positive has been in contact with students from another class, in the canteen or at recess, the isolation of several classes may be implemented.

To avoid any risk, the school draws up a list of people who may have been in contact with the sick student. This list is then sent to the regional health agency, which will determine the people with whom it has been in contact, so that they can be tested. However, based on three positive cases in a school, the authorities can request the closure of the school.

If my child tests positive, do siblings have to stay isolated?

This Tuesday, September 15, the Ministry of Education clarified the case of the brothers and sisters. So, if your child is infected, all siblings will also have to stay in isolation until the sick child is fully healed. If one of the parents tests positive, the children should remain isolated at home.

To return to the school, it will suffice to make a certificate of the parents' honor.
