when will you receive your paper tax return by La Poste?

Many individuals continue to declare their income using the traditional paper form. Here is the date from which it will be sent for the 2022 tax return.

It’s almost time to declare your income. The tax authorities have just unveiled the official calendar for the 2023 campaign. From April 13, it will be possible to get rid of the traditional spring chore by declaring your income online on the impots.gouv.fr website or on the application taxes.gov.

For those who intend to make a paper declaration, the sending of the forms will take place between April 6 and 25. By anticipating the delays of La Poste, this means that the paper declaration can arrive at the end of April in certain households. This must be returned in any case before Monday, May 22 at midnight – as evidenced by the postmark – to avoid paying late penalties.

Nearly 4million complete declarations in paper format in 2021

And it’s quite a paradox. If the online declaration is in principle mandatory, large numbers of taxpayers will still receive a paper return. Indeed, if you are in a white zone, that is to say that you do not have Internet access, or if you do not feel able to complete a dematerialized declaration, it is then possible to send to the tax authorities a declaration of his income by mail.

In 2021, 3.8 million tax households have opted for the paper version. It is therefore 10% of households that did not manage to complete the declaration online. As for the 2022 numbers, the IRS has yet to release any stats.

In theory, any taxpayer who is able to make his electronic declaration but who deliberately chooses the paper version is liable to a fine of 15 euros per document due.

But one of the disadvantages of the paper declaration is that you have less time to declare. The deadline extends until June 8 for the online declaration.

A declaration that is sometimes automatic

On the other hand, just like eligible telefilers, certain paper declarants can also benefit from automatic declaration, if the tax authorities expressly inform them.

This reporting method simply consists of verifying the accuracy and completeness of the information pre-indicated by the tax authorities. If everything is good, the taxpayer has nothing to do, nor send to the taxman. On the other hand, in the event of a correction being made, the taxpayer must complete and sign the automatic declaration according to the usual procedures.

In all, more than 10 million households can benefit from automatic reporting.
