While their mom is telecommuting, two sisters accidentally defy each other

Two girls from Ille-et-Vilaine fell from the first floor of their house, after climbing onto a stool near a window. They were taken to hospital.

An accident that could have had a dramatic end. Wednesday March 31, in Argentré-du-Plessis, in Ille-et-Vilaine, two girls of 2 and 5 years old fell from the first floor of their house, reports Ouest France. The two sisters were in an upstairs bedroom, while their mom teleworked downstairs. According to reports from the local daily, the bedroom window was open, and the two girls were said to be mounted on a stool, before losing their balance and falling.

Frequent domestic accidents

In France, home accidents are the leading cause of death in children aged 1 to 14, according to the association Prevention Insurance. In the bedroom, certain actions should be adopted to avoid danger, such as fixing unstable furniture to the wall, not leaving furniture or a stool near the window and making sure that children cannot open it.

Unfortunately, if it is essential to always keep an eye on young children, the current context makes this monitoring complicated. Indeed, in this period of pandemic and school closings, many parents are teleworking and must manage their jobs in addition to the children at home. Combining the two can be very difficult, especially when you are alone. During the first confinement, the agency Public health France noted an increase in emergency room visits for domestic accidents among children under 15 years old. An increase of 20% compared to 2019. A total of 273 emergency visits were recorded from March 16 to May 10, 2020, against 227 during the same period the previous year. More prevention on the subject seems necessary. As is the establishment of means to help parents who work at home with dependent children.
