who is behind Boursorama Banque?

At the start of 2023, Boursorama Banque had 4.7 million customers. Leader in the online banking market, it aims to reach 5.5 million customers before 2024. But what big bank is hiding behind Boursorama?

Boursorama Banque had set itself the objective of bringing together 4.5 million customers by the end of 2025. If the goal is largely achieved with 4.7 million individual and professional customers (and two years in advance), online banking does not want to stop there. By 2024, it now aims 5.5million customers.

Like the majority of online banks, Boursorama Banque, which has prided itself on being the least expensive bank for several years, is backed by a banking group: the Socit Generale group. Historically, the Boursorama.com site appeared for the first time in 1998. It was initially a financial information portal, which subsequently opened up to online brokerage in 2002, via its subsidiary Boursotrading . The same year, the company Fimatex (itself owned by Société Générale) bought the website. But it was not until 2005 that Boursorama finally launched into retail banking and marketed a current account associated with a card. Since June 2015, Boursorama Banque has been 100% owned by Socit Generale (SG bank).

How far will Boursorama Banque go?

A full range of products

Boursorama Banque offers individuals 3 bank account offers with Visa card (compatible with contactless payment and mobile payments), two of which are free: Welcome, Ultim and the Metal offer. Whatever the formula, the subsidiary of the SG group integrates at no additional cost: a bank account with French IBAN, maintenance of the account, free and unlimited payments and withdrawals in euros, insurance of the means of payment, issuance of international transfers, setting up of direct debits, or collection of checks. In addition, the bank also grants authorized overdraft for its three offers, ranging up to 10,000 euros depending on the package.

On the other hand, Boursorama Banque does not provide access to the SG branch network to deposit cash or deposit checks, even though it is attached to the Socit Gnrale group. Account management is done either online from the online customer area, or directly on the mobile application. The customer thus manages his accounts easily and can in particular: consult his secret code, add beneficiaries for a transfer, block or unblock his bank card, or program SMS alerts.

An offer for professionals and for teenagers

But that’s not all. Boursorama Banque customers can also open an account for their children free of charge with the Freedom offer. This formula, accessible to teenagers aged 12 to 17, includes a 100% mobile account linked to a Visa Classic card with systematic authorisation. Finally, auto-entrepreneurs also have a dedicated offer: Boursorama Pro. Accessible without conditions of means or payments, it is displayed at 9 euros including tax per month and comes with a top-of-the-range Visa Ultim card. The holder also benefits from Boursorama Protection Pro insurance and an overdraft of up to 2,500 euros.
