After being shown tearing down portraits of Hamas hostages and uttering the words “Israel assassin”, Sophie Pommier, former collaborator of the Quai d’Orsay, is now the target of an investigation by the French administration into conditions of his recruitment to the ministry. But what is the profile of this woman?

“Murderer Israel, long live Palestine.” It is with these words that Sophie Pommier justified her action on the videos which show her taking down portraits of Hamas hostages in the street. Acts which pushed the French administration to open an investigation into this woman who is rather well known in the media sphere.

Sophie Pommier is a Middle East specialist, former public official and author of several books. One of them, named Muhammad’s night journey, is intended to introduce children to the life of the prophet, founder of Islam. Lecturer at Sciences Po Paris, she is not unknown to the media. In recent years, we have been able to see it on television on France 24, or read it in several major newspapers such as Release Or The diplomatic world.

Last month, she spoke in a France Culture podcast on the Palestinian question, a few days after the Hamas attack. In the video shared on social networks, she can be heard responding to people who call her a terrorist: “Israel a murderer, long live the Palestine!”. She also said in English: “yes, I am a terrorist”. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, requested an administrative investigation into the conditions of her recruitment at the Quai d’Orsay. She specifies in her press release by Sophie Pommier no longer works at the ministry.
