Passwords are no longer necessary to connect to PlayStation Network: Sony now supports passkeys. Players have every interest in taking an interest in it to increase the level of security of their account.
You no longer need to use a password to sign in to PlayStation Network. From now on, players can use an identification key (or passkey in English) to access their account instead. Change was announced on February 26 by the PlayStation France account on X (formerly Twitter).
With the participation of the PlayStation Network, the passkey movement gains a strong ally. Sony’s video game platform for its consoles is used by more than 120 million people each month – which is as many individuals who could opt for this new means of connection.

PSN thus joins several other large services which have already added passkeys to their access methods. Amazon, Apple, Adobe, Boursorama, Coinbase, eBay, GitHub, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nvidia, PayPal, TiktTok, Uber, WhatsApp and X are the best known. A list exists to find out which sites accept passeskeys today.
Passkeys are used to replace passwords, highlighting advantages that make them very interesting: they are not required to be memorized; their robustness is ensured by default; data leaks have no control over them; phishing is ineffective. In short, passkeys are more secure than passwords.
“ An identification key also reduces the vulnerability inherent in password-only systems: it cannot be guessed or reused », Confirms Sony. No risk of phishing if you accidentally click on a fraudulent email. A PSN hack, as happened in 2011, would also be of lesser magnitude.
Sony provides a guide to support those who want to take the plunge. The functionality is simple to use, as is its activation – two conditions which prove essential to ensure the success of passeskeys with the general public. It is also promised that connecting with a passkey is even faster.
Password managers are aware of the arrival of passkeys, which could threaten their business if passwords are actually replaced.
