who will have to pay 50 euros more on his electricity bill in 2023

To encourage the deployment of the Linky meter among the still reluctant 10% of customers, the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE) authorizes Enedis to invoice the non-reading of the indexes annually. For the moment, the amount should reach 50 euros per year but it could increase from 2025.

Since its release in 2015, the so-called Linky smart meter has never been unanimous. Main complaint: the yellow object would be intrusive. Above all, remotely, it allows the supplier to read consumption and, if necessary, to reduce the supply, in the event of non-payment of the invoice in particular.

For a long time, the recalcitrants were able to refuse it. And if it is still possible in certain cases, this rejection will no longer be free. From January 1, 2023customers who have not sent their consumption index once a year will pay an additional 8.30 euros every two months, i.e. 49.80 euros excluding tax per year until the old electricity meter in their home is replaced by a Linky meter.

This sum, which corresponds to the passage of a technician, will be deducted directly from the electricity bill, decided the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE) in March 2022. For the CRE, it was a question of defining the new incentive regulation framework that will apply to the Linky project until 2024. There would be approximately 3.8million people concerned by this situation.

The price of the service may increase in 2025 and expand. Indeed, if you take an annual statement, but you don’t have a Linky meter, you won’t pay anything until December 2024. The only exception is that installation proves impossible for technical reasons. As of December 31, 2021, 34million meters were installed, i.e. 90% of Enedis customers.
