WHO worries about risks of epidemics in the Gaza Strip

The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed its concern on Friday, November 17, about the risks of epidemics in the Gaza Strip. While 1.5 million people have had to flee their homes since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, the refugee camps in southern Gaza are overcrowded. In addition to a lack of food, drinking water or even access to sanitation facilities, Gazans now have to deal with the spread of diseases.

More than 70,000 cases of acute respiratory infection, as well as 44,000 cases of diarrhea, have been recorded by the WHO. With the onset of winter and the rainy season, the agency expects these numbers to increase, a catastrophe in Gaza, where the hospital system is already overwhelmed due to bombing.
