Maïwenn says she attacked the journalist because of the publication of bits of her “hearing” before the police in an article on Luc Besson in 2021.

Edwy Plenel, co-founder of Mediapart, filed a complaint in March against the director and actress Maïwenn, whom he accuses of having assaulted him in a restaurant. The director acknowledged the facts and even explained them to the JDD : she accuses Mediapart of having used against her will excerpts from her hearing before the judicial police as part of an investigation published in 2021 and devoted to accusations of rape against Luc Besson, the father of her daughter.
The Court of Cassation will deliver its decision on June 21 on these rape charges which have been dismissed, confirmed on appeal, made by actress Sand Van Roy against the director, who claims his innocence.
“Nothing justifies violating a woman’s privacy”
“I do not blame Mediapart for the investigations they have carried out concerning Luc Besson. I blame them for what they did to me, ”launches Maïwenn in the columns of the JDD. The director, also an actress, assures that she met a journalist from Mediapart at the end of 2018 about this media’s investigation into Luc Besson, her ex-husband and father of her daughter, whom she says has not been seeing “since twenty years “. The director then told the journalist that she did not want to “take the floor”.

But, at the beginning of 2021, Mediapart publishes “an article with bits of the hearing” that it made in June 2020 before the judicial police. “It’s a cataclysm. […] I felt a moral rape,” underlines Maïwenn. “If nothing justifies attacking a journalist, nothing justifies violating a woman’s privacy,” she added.
An open investigation
She had already publicly acknowledged in May, on the show Daily (TMC), assaulting Edwy Plenel, then refusing to explain. Edwy Plenel had filed a complaint in March, which AFP was able to consult, against the director for this attack. “A woman, previously seated, alone, at another table [d’un restaurant parisien] arose and, in a very short period of time, seized [Edwy Plenel] by the hair with violence, throwing his head back and sketching a spit on his face “, can we read. Maïwenn was then identified by the restaurant staff.

“An investigation is open. Edwy Plenel was heard two weeks ago. The other witnesses are being heard,” the journalist’s lawyer, Mr.e Pierre-Emmanuel Blard.
