This was the case for Valheim in 2021 and again for V Rising in 2022 and both are early access released on Steam and developed by independent studioss. For the game of Stunlock, this flash success can be explained by many factors: the desert level of the major release, the genre in which they both fit and, of course, the possibility of playing in co-op or in PVP , with a dedicated streamer mode, which makes the game particularly enticing for streaming. On Twitch, the audiences are quite modest, but on Steam, thousands of new reviews are published on the game’s page every day. Valheim had reached astronomical sales figures and in a very short time, will V Rising manage to repeat the feat a year later?
V Rising, the game with bite, today records a new record. After celebrating 150,000 concurrent players a few days ago, it’s time to celebrate again. But then, will the survival game surpass the success of its competitor, Valheim?
More directive survival
Both games offer fairly gigantic open worlds divided into biomes, like all games of the genre ultimately. However, both are betting on accompanying the players a little bit thanks to quest threads that will push you to venture further and further on their maps. The scope of the content is not comparable, V Rising puts the pill to its cousin on this point, with dozens of bosses, against 5 in Valheim. Still, it’s enough to motivate you to move forward and make more and more powerful equipment and that’s all we ask.
Controlled progress
The operation by equipment tier, already crossed in other survival games like Conan Exiles, is an excellent way to motivate you to go and fade all the bosses lying around. The quest for power is well brought to both games and the desire to break the boss and the mob in the chain is very present, with a good balance and some original mechanics to break the monotony of the gameplay loop. This is perhaps the main element that makes you quickly addicted: the improvement of your survivor and your base are at the heart of these two titles and it works very well every time.

As we said above, the two survivals have red threads, a main quest and a goal to achieve. But out of your early hours, the V duo trusts players to fend for themselves. It’s up to you to experiment, to crash and then to try again until you overcome the trials that await you. This feeling of freedom is really exhilarating and for once, it feels more in Valheim, which manages to surprise many times thanks to its randomly generated worlds.
A well-calibrated farm
The quantities seem abused at the beginning, on the two titles, but finally you will realize that by knowing the good spots, everything is done very quickly. Concretely, these sandboxes will above all ask you to organize yourself very effectively to manage to tickle its most devious challenges.. The level of object and the equipment are not everything, it will also be necessary to have a base that rotates without you having to shake everything up with each new recipe. Basically, building smart is necessary.
What separates them
- The Stunlock studio behind V Rising is far more experienced than Iron Gate and it should be felt on the follow-up of the game and the addition of new content.
- V Rising’s battles are much more tactical and complex than Valheim’swhich remains very rudimentary on this specific point.
- The open world of V Rising was designed by hand and will therefore be the same every gamewhile Valheim features randomly generated worlds.
- No PVP or other game mode at Valheim unlike V Rising which puts a big emphasis on that, with plenty of server options and everything you need to go petty other players.
