“Why Marvel, why?” : the death of this character in Secret Invasion puts fans in PLS

Disney+ released the 4th episode of its Marvel Secret Invasion series on July 12. On the program: revelations and an end to the episode that put everyone in PLS.

Warning this article contains spoilers on the first four episodes of Secret Invasion.

The broadcast of Secret Invasion continues on Disney+. The platform put online this Thursday, July 12, the 4th episode in which Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) finds himself in a delicate situation. He discovers that his wife is in cahoots with Gravik. Rhodes (Don Cheadle), who is indeed a Skrull as some fans had guessed, then asks him to eliminate the former agent of SHIELD, under penalty of being himself executed. But Pricillia does not agree to it…

Fury, who had already figured out that he had nothing to do with the real War Machine in the restaurant scene, decides to tail him. Gravik then launches an attack against the President of the United States, pretending to be the Russian army. Talos and Fury intervene to save the Head of State but Talos is mortally wounded by the Skrull leader… Nick makes the difficult choice to leave him behind in order to bring the President to safety.

This is the second time the writers of Secret Invasion have killed off a fan-favorite character (after Mariah Hill in the first episode). And this death hurts particularly as the character played by Ben Mendelsohn was the darling. Witness this series of tweets gleaned this morning from the social network:

“They couldn’t kill Talos like that? Right when he and G’iah parted on bad terms. Why Marvel, why”

“I saw it coming for Talos but it’s too sad”

“The episode was too short. Rhodey was indeed a Skrull, the conversion between Fury and Pricilla and now Talos is dead??? I’m sick of all this!”

“I woke up at 3am to see Talos being killed. I can’t believe my eyes.”

With two episodes remaining for its first season, Secret Invasion is toughening up the tone. Fury discovers in this episode that Gravik has created super-soldiers and that they are therefore almost invisible (in addition to being undetectable). The task therefore promises to be difficult for him, now that he finds himself alone in this quagmire. Unless he can count on the help of G’iah, who used the machine to gain powers…
