Why TF1, TMC, LCI and TFX are no longer available on Canal Plus offers

Within the framework of the negotiation of new tariffs of diffusion of the chains of the group TF1, Canal Plus decided not to distribute any more on its own services.

Since this Friday, subscribers to Canal Plus services can no longer access the various free channels of the TF1 group within their offers. It is therefore impossible to consult the TF1, TF1 Series Films, TMC, LCI and TFX channels, whether on your television via a decoder, on a smartphone via the myCanal application or from your computer via Canalplus.com.

In a message automatically displayed when subscribers seek to consult the streams of these different channels live, the Canal Plus group specifies:

As part of the distribution of its channels by the Canal+ group, the TF1 group has expressed its desire to fundamentally review its commercial requirements as of August 31, 2022.

Faced with its unfounded and unreasonable demands for channels accessible free of charge for all, the Canal+ group is forced to give up broadcasting these channels.

A new commercial battle after Molotov

This suspension of the broadcasting of the TF1 group channels by Canal Plus therefore seems to be part of a commercial negotiation between the two audiovisual giants. A situation which is reminiscent of that which took place between TF1 and Molotov. The group of the first chain had managed to condemn Molotov for counterfeiting because of the free diffusion of its various chains. This decision by TF1 then prompted Molotov to review its paid offers. In the same way as the channels of the M6 group, the channels of TF1 are now accessible again on Molotov… provided you take out a paid subscription of 5.99 euros per month.

Above all, since the disappearance of TF1 on Molotov, the Canal+ site had become a practical option for consulting the live stream of TF1 without having to go through MY TF1. The site of the first chain indeed requires a connection to a dedicated account and also displays advertisements in pre-roll in addition to those already broadcast on the streams of the various channels.

For the time being, we still do not know how the negotiations between TF1 and Canal Plus will end. There is no doubt that the Vivendi group’s communication comes within the framework of a renegotiation strategy by trying to put its subscribers on its side. “The TF1 Group, on the strength of its dominant position, demands in particular the payment of very substantial remuneration for its free DTT channels: TF1, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films and LCI”indicates the group in a publication shared on its assistance this Friday.
