“Le Monde”, the reference daily in France, is set to English time. Its site launches “Le Monde in English”, an English-language edition of its French-language content. With this innovation, “Le Monde” aims to promote a French vision of current issues and increase its number of subscribers.

“The World in English”. This is the name chosen by the newspaper The world for its new offering, launched on Thursday. It is, as the title indicates, a digital edition in English. It offers a translation of several articles written by the editorial staff every day, accompanied by a daily newsletter in English. To develop this new offer, the newspaper is mobilizing a team of eight journalists. Two of them are based at the daily office in Los Angeles. This team will be responsible for selecting the articles to be translated and for managing the home page of the site in English.

One million subscriber goal

According to Gilles Van Kote, the deputy director of relations with the newspaper’s readers, this new edition meets two objectives: on the one hand, to offer the English-speaking world a French and European view of the news. On the other hand, giving even greater visibility to the work of the editorial staff and thus expanding the number of subscribers to the digital offer of the World.

If the milestone of 500,000 subscribers was crossed for the first time last December, The world has set itself the goal, in particular thanks to this new edition, of reaching one million subscribers by 2025.
