Summer event: the Women’s Euro begins on July 6, 2022 in England. A competition without the presence of Amandine Henry? Ousted from the qualifying phases of the 2023 World Cup, the sportswoman could indeed be dismissed by the coach of the France team, Corinne Deacon. Explanations.
Les Bleues are about to experience a new sporting adventure. In effect, the players of the France team are in competition for the next Euro due to take place from July 6 to 31 in England. And for the occasion, they face Italy, Belgium and Iceland in group D. With the aim of reaching the quarter-finals, the group therefore intends to win the title. However, Amandine Henry may not be part of the list of the coach of the France team. And for good reason, Corinne Deacon did not retain the sportswoman within the Blue for the qualifying phases of the 2023 World Cup. The international future of Amandine Henry therefore seems rather vague today. Especially since the current team seems to suit Corinne Deacon. “If I have the same group to go to the Euro, it will suit me very well”she said, Thursday, September 9, 2021 at a press conference, in remarks relayed by The world. Amandine Henry is however one of the symbols of the France team: pillar of the women’s team since 2009, the 32-year-old athlete was named a Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2021.
Amandine Henry looks back on her conflict with Corinne Deacon
In November 2020, following his ousting from Les Bleues, Amandine Henry did not hesitate to criticize Corinne Deacon’s management methods. In an interview given to Channel Football Club the sportswoman indeed reacted to the decision of the tactician not to retain her: “I was a little shocked, I had to question myself, I said to myself that there was a qualification for the Euro. (…) The discussion lasted 14-15 seconds. That phone call, I was shocked. She tells me that the list is coming out tomorrow and that I won’t be there based on my current performance. I stay shocked, I say ‘OK good game goodbye’. It will remain etched in my heart.”
A position on which Amandine Henry returned in an interview with the YouTube channel Oh My Goal in November 2021. “I know that I can look at myself in a mirror. We have to move forward now. (…) Most of the feedback was quite positive. I did it with my heart, it showed. Even if I would have preferred to speak in other circumstances“said Amandine Henry in comments relayed by The Team.
A few weeks before the Euro, Amandine Henry therefore sees the blue jersey moving away despite his 93 selections with the French. More than adversity on the pitch, these are therefore internal affairs that will set the temperature during the championship. Because on the lawn side, the team should not be in difficulty in a group within their reach.
