THE Steam Deck will soon add Wii and Nintendo strings to its already sizeable arsenal.

The famous Dolphin emulator dedicated to Nintendo consoles has indeed announced its official arrival on the Valve platform, scheduled for the 2e quarter of this year.

The dolphin explores new waters

After months of hard work, the very popular Dolphin is therefore exploring new territories to land on Steam. A product page on the platform’s store (cited in source below) has been set up to set the stage.

The emulator of Nintendo consoles like the Wii or the GameCube will enter early access during the 2e quarter of the year. This will allow you to play iconic games in the best conditions, in 4K and with the support of modern controllers. Finally, provided you have an original copy of the games in question, otherwise you risk committing an act of piracy.

Emulator regulars will be in familiar waters, since how Dolphin works won’t fundamentally change on Steam. It will indeed not be a question of downloading the games directly on the Valve platform, but of launching the program which will create a virtual environment.

Dolphin verified on the Steam Deck

Who says arrival of Dolphin on Steam necessarily says that the Steam Deck will also benefit from the festivities. Even though emulation requires a little more resources to run the program and a game simultaneously, Valve’s console/PC hybrid should largely have what it takes. The emulator’s Steam page has also mentioned the (rather reasonable) configurations required for its proper functioning:

Minimum System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10;
  • Processor: Intel i5-3550 or AMD FX-6200;
  • RAM: 2 GB;
  • Graphics: Intel HD 4000;
  • DirectX: Version 11;
  • Disk space: 4 GB.

Recommended Setup

  • Operating System: Windows 10;
  • Processor: Intel i5-6500 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600;
  • RAM: 4 GB;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 760 or AMD R9 280;
  • DirectX: Version 12;
  • Disk space: 20 GB.

It is currently only possible to add Dolphin to your wishlist to be kept informed of the developments of the emulator on Steam. This should be free, but we still insist that using Wii or GameCube games within it will first require ownership of an original copy.

Dolphin Emulator

  • The most powerful emulator today
  • The ability to play GameCube AND Wii games
  • Regular updates

Dolphin is one of the most impressive emulators on mobile. It allows you to run GameCube and Wii games on your mobile, just to transform your portable terminal into a real game console. Although it is not the most accessible emulator on the market (you will need a particularly powerful smartphone to running it and the settings can be a little complicated for ordinary mortals), it nevertheless offers one of the most complete services of the moment. And what’s more, it’s completely free!
