Corridor rumors suggest that AMD could be a step ahead of the competition with its graphics cards under RDNA 3.

AMD’s next graphics cards ahead of the competition?
As a reminder, DisplayPort 2.0 technology has now been around for 3 years. However, it is currently only used on Intel’s Arc graphics cards. The famous RTX 4090 is content for its part with DisplayPort 1.4a technology.
Asked about this rather surprising decision, NVIDIA had given its reasons. According to the American giant, DisplayPort 1.4 is still more than enough, as it is capable of supporting an 8K display at 60 frames per second. He adds that support for DisplayPort 2.0, or even 2.1 for individuals is still far too early. This technology indeed promises on paper to support displays up to 16K and 120 frames per second on a display of 7680 x 4320 pixels.
However, there are currently very few screens capable of displaying such resolutions, at least not without having to sell an arm to acquire it. Additionally, the DisplayPort 2.0 and 2.1 standards have not yet been approved by VESA.
A still nebulous technology
It is therefore appropriate to put water in the wine of this rumor on the adoption of DisplayPort 2.1 on RDNA 3 GPUs. Earlier this year, a leak showed that AMD would indeed support the DisplayPort 2.0 standard, but did not didn’t seem to mention version 2.1.
What’s more, the details around this technology are still hazy. It is also rumored to support Ultra-High Bit Rate 20, the highest bandwidth per line to date. As a reminder, DisplayPort 2.0 already offers 80 Gbps, which is three times the bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.4.
While waiting for the emergence of other rumors to confirm whether or not GPUs under RDNA 3 will indeed support DisplayPort 2.1, we will have the heart of it anyway on November 3rd. Indeed, on this date, AMD will reveal the RDNA 3 in broad daylight, with all the crisp details that go with it.
