Will office become a leasehold? – Who could succeed Alfred Riedl as president

At least officially, Austria’s Association of Municipalities President Alfred Riedl will return to his dormant, but not yet made available office on Friday. How long Riedl, who has come under criticism for real estate transactions uncovered by the “Krone” and “Profil”, will continue to hold it is questionable anyway. Because the president of the association of municipalities cannot currently be voted out of office, just like the president of the National Council.

Why the changes only take effect later
As reported, a change to the statutes is planned for the meeting of the Federal Executive Board on December 1st, which should now also make it possible to vote out the president (see facsimiles above). However, this deselection would only be possible after a period of around four weeks, as the community association is an association and the change to the statutes – especially around the Christmas holidays – would still have to be checked by the association police. The representatives of Burgenland – we hear from committee circles – would have preferred to vote Riedl out on Friday.
