Will Smith’s Oscar slap appears to have implications for the release of ‘Emancipation’ The film is said to be postponed.
Will Smith’s (53) attack on comedian Chris Rock (57) at the Oscars has further implications. Although there had been no fixed start date so far, the release of the thriller “Emancipation” was expected in industry circles for 2022. Now the new film by director Antoine Fuqua (56), in which Smith also plays, will probably not appear on Apple TV + until 2023. This is reported by “Variety”, citing an anonymous source.
Several projects affected
According to the insider, it is currently “the unspoken truth” that the film will be released later. There were discussions among those responsible as to whether publication in autumn 2022 was still possible. According to the report, however, it is highly unlikely that the original plan will be maintained. In addition, one of the reasons for the alleged postponement could be that Fuqua simply needs more time for the post-production of the film.
It was previously reported that Smith had stopped working on several film projects, including a fourth installment in the Bad Boys series and the Netflix film Fast and Loose.
During the Oscars, the Hollywood star came out from the audience and slapped Chris Rock in the face. The comedian previously joked about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, 50. The actor resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after the scandal. The Academy had also banned Smith from the awards ceremony and other events for the next ten years.
