A new star for the Hollywood Walk of Fame: Willem Dafoe was celebrated by famous colleagues at his ceremony.

Actor Willem Dafoe (68), known from films such as “Spider-Man” and “Poor Things”, has received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In his speech at the ceremony in Los Angeles, he said, according to US media reports, that the recognition was “wonderful.”

Dafoe reportedly said that when he was growing up in Appleton, Wisconsin, he never imagined getting a star on the Walk of Fame. However, he added, he is not the first Appleton resident to have a star. Erik Weisz alias Harry Houdini (1874-1926) also once lived in the city. Willem Dafoe is now happy to be part of it himself. It’s “wonderful to be part of this community of artists and entertainers,” he said.

Successful for 40 years

Willem Dafoe, who has been successful since the 1980s, has received numerous awards throughout his career. The actor was nominated for an Oscar four times, for his roles in “Van Gogh: On the Threshold of Eternity” (2018), “The Florida Project” (2017), “Shadow of the Vampire” (2000) and “Platoon” ( 1986).

He was most recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in the film “Poor Things” (2023), in which he can be seen alongside Emma Stone (35) and Mark Ruffalo (56).

Colleagues and family celebrate Willem Dafoe

The actor was also supported by family and friends at the Walk of Fame ceremony. Among other things, his wife, the director Giada Colagrande (48), was present. Director Guillermo del Toro (59) and his fellow actors Ruffalo and Camila Morrone (26) also celebrated with Dafoe. Patricia Arquette (55) and Pedro Pascal (48) also paid tribute to the 68-year-old with their own speeches during the ceremony. “He is the greatest American actor of our time,” said Pascal, among other things, adding that Dafoe’s career is unique.
