A wind turbine from Vestas has set a new world energy record. More megawatt hours were harvested in a single day than ever before.
Especially when it comes to large offshore wind turbines, records are falling with great regularity. This report from the wind turbine manufacturer Vestas is still a cause for concern.
The prototype turbine called V236 was able to produce 363 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy within 24 hours. For a better classification: According to the comparison portal Check24, the daily electricity consumption of a 3-person household in Germany is between 1,700 and 2,600 kilowatt hours (kWh).
After seven months of testing, we are very excited about the performance of the turbine at full power and in sustained strong winds. The verification campaign continues to achieve type certification and further demonstrate what a high quality machine can achieve over time.”

Test operations on the gigantic wind turbine have been running in Denmark since the end of 2022. With the new record, Vestas replaces a system from Siemens-Gamesa. On a “perfect day” in October 2022, this generated around 359 megawatt hours of energy.
