Windows 10 is full of new widgets, here’s how to install them

The latest Insider build of Windows adds several new widgets. It is thus possible to constantly keep an eye on traffic, stock prices and the results of sporting events. We explain how to take advantage of it before the official deployment.

You might think that Microsoft is gradually dropping Windows 10 as its end of support date approaches, and yet new updates continue to improve the operating system. The latest, in particular, brings new widgets, a functionality that the Redmond firm traditionally pushes on Windows 11. Once is not customary, it is thanks to the leaker PhantomOfEarth that this information has reached us.

The new widgets in question allow you to follow the stock market price, the traffic situation or even the score of a sporting event. All these widgets now appear on the Windows lock screen and are therefore accessible without needing to access your Desktop. As usual, they also include a link for more information, which redirects to MSN.

How to enable new Windows 10 widgets

For now, these new widgets are only accessible to users in the Preview channel, which provides access to the latest features before their deployment to the general public. However, there is a way to activate them. Here’s how to do it:

1. Make sure you are on the latest Preview build KB5035941 via Windows Update
2. Click this link to download the tool ViveTool
3. Open Command Prompt in administrator mode
4. Type the command CD C: [emplacement_du_fichier]Long live
5. Then type the command vivetool /enable /id:48801541
6. Restart your PC
7. If not already done, enable the option News and areas of interest with a right click on the taskbar

The new widgets will then appear on your lock screen. This new version also brings some visual changes, such as the blurred background and a new font which improve overall visibility. On the other hand, we regret that it is impossible to select which widgets to display, which forces the user to also display those which do not interest them.
