Windows 11 completely overhauls firewall alerts and it feels great

The latest Windows 11 update brings a brand new, much cleaner design to the firewall alert window. Instead of an austere and frankly intimidating authorization request, users are now entitled to a clearer and above all much more welcoming interface which will allow them to make more informed decisions.

If there is one improvement that cannot be taken away from Windows 11 compared to its predecessors, it is the immense effort made on the user interface. As complete as it is, Windows has always appeared quite austere to neophytes and other macOS fans – an observation that would be hard to deny. The latest version of the operating system has therefore worked extensively on the issue, and new optimizations are regularly deployed.

The latest Windows 11 update is the perfect example. As pointed out by Tom Warren, journalist at The Verge, on his X account (Twitter), a small window well known to users has completely changed its look. This is the firewall authorization pop-up, which appears when an application, most of the time newly installed, attempts to connect to the Internet without permission from the user.

Until now, the window had kept the same design as on Windows 10. And the least we can say is that it didn’t make you want to linger there. With its large Windows Defender logo, obscure metadata for anyone unfamiliar with it, authorizations that are often unclear for ordinary mortals and especially the authorization button requiring you to be in an administrator session, it was easy to imagine that we were about to trigger the launch of a nuclear missile by clicking on Authorize.

The new interface is much cleaner. Windows 11 very clearly asks whether or not the user wants the app they just opened to have Internet access. The name and logo of the application also appear quickly and attract the eye. As for the choices, there are only two left: authorize or cancel. This will avoid a lot of cold sweats in the future.
