Microsoft is decidedly unlucky with printers and its new version of Windows 11. Many users had already reported that their network printer disappeared following the update of the operating system. Now Microsoft confirms yet another new issue.
Undetected features
Microsoft confirms that systems running Windows 11 2022 (2H22) Update may have issues detecting all printer functionality. Affected printers are those using Microsoft IPP and Universal Print drivers.
Thus, even if the printers are well detected, they only work with the default settings. This means that their specific features cannot be used, including color, double-sided/duplex printing, format settings or even resolutions higher than 300×300 dpi.
Therefore, Microsoft is making the decision to temporarily suspend updates to Windows 2H22 for all computers using Microsoft IPP and Universal Print.
What is the proposed solution?
Microsoft is still working on resolving the issue and says it will provide more information in the future.
In the meantime, for users who are currently facing this printer problem, the company suggests the following manipulations:
- Remove any printer using Microsoft IPP or Universal Print
- Install Windows 11 2022 update only after the printer is removed. Update may take 48 hours
- Reinstall the printer after the update is complete.
