Chatbot users Microsoft Copilot will be able to test the GPT-4 Turbo model for free. The publisher has updated its tool for better precision in the results given.
Microsoft does not seem to want to take a break from the development of its Microsoft Copilot technology. The tool, based on ChatGPT from OpenAI, is now integrated into Windows, but is also available in an online version, as well as in mobile applications for iOS and Android. Free users will be able to test a new evolution of the chatbot today, with the integration of the latest language model developed by OpenAI.
Updated and better Copilot for free users
Until today, Microsoft Copilot only offered the GPT-4 language model in its free version. The GPT-4 Turbo version, presented at the end of 2023, was only available to paying users, agreeing to give around twenty euros per month to benefit from the very latest updates of the model, and more precise results for their different queries.
It was Mikhail Parakhin, Microsoft’s head of web activities and services, who announced on his X.com (formerly Twitter) account that Microsoft had today replaced the default language model in favor of GPT-4 Turbo. All users can now benefit from it, by activating the Creative or Precise settings in the online service interface.
Mr. Parakhin further clarifies that Pro users who wish to stick to GPT-4 can do so through a dedicated setting.
GPT-4 Turbo provides better insight for more relevant answers
GPT-4 Turbo is an important update for OpenAI and Microsoft. The language is now available with an expanded limit of 128,000 tokens, which represents approximately 300 pages of text processed at most. GPT-4 could only process 32,000 tokens, a four-fold increase in capacity in just a few months.
This apparently generous maneuver can possibly be explained by the upcoming presentation of a new evolution of the language model, which would be integrated into the paid version of Copilot. Microsoft would thus offer the best version to its subscriber customers, with improved performance, without neglecting the free version which allows it to accustom millions of Windows users to this technology, which is increasingly integrated into their daily lives.
