Windows smeared – Bregenzer Hypobank in the sights of climate activists

The climate activists from “Extinction Rebellion Vorarlberg” demanded that State Governor Markus Wallner immediately stop the “hiding of taxpayers’ money”. This time they expressed their dissatisfaction with the construction of the Feldkirch city tunnel and with the granting of loans to Rene Benko in front of the Hypobank.

On Wednesday the country house once again resembled a fortress. The underground car park and forecourt were strictly guarded. Anyone who wanted to enter the country house had to show identification. Since July 2023, climate activists have been protesting on days when a state parliament session is taking place. This Wednesday, however, they did not target the country house, but rather the Bregenzer Hypobank. The state bank, which is likely to be stuck with millions after lending to Rene Benko. The demonstrators hoisted a flag in the design of the Hypo-Bank and smeared the facade of the financial institution with paint. “Tunnel spider, S18, Hypo scandal – How many taxes are still in Wallner’s black hole?” was what you could read there. Future destroyed “In connection with the Hypo scandal, it is clear to us that further taxes are being invested in the destruction of our future “instead of, for example, promoting a socially just transport transition,” explained Johannes Juritsch from “Extinction Rebellion,” which is why the bank was chosen as the place of protest this time. The Hypo scandal is reason to put a finger in the wound and call on Wallner to finally fulfill his duty. “Purpose responsible policies that secure our livelihoods and those of future generations and do not destroy them,” said Martina Eisendle from “Extinction Rebellion”.
