After the Finns, the Irish of the city of Lusk will be able to be delivered by Wing drones.

The Wing delivery drones will soon explore new horizons: the sky of Ireland, more precisely of the locality of Lusk located in the county of Dublin. The company has announced the deployment of its service in this area within a few weeks.

A fifth city, less populated than the others

Lusk will thus become the fifth city served by the drones of the Alphabet subsidiary. Indeed, Wing currently offers drone deliveries in four other cities around the world: Helsinki, Finland; Logan and Canberra, Australia; Christiansburg, USA.

With less than 10,000 inhabitants, Lusk is the least populated of the aforementioned towns. Wing says it will use it as an experimental area to test different types of small-scale delivery services, taking into account feedback from residents. The press release states: To be clear, this is a first small step for Wing in Ireland, which will be different from the commercial services we currently operate in Finland, Australia and the United States. »

The company, which has obtained the support of the IAA (Irish Aviation Authority), reports that Ireland has pioneered drone technology in Europe and represents a ” excellent incubator for future innovations “. Finally, the company also announces its ambition to expand its activities to more European cities in the future. For this, it works in collaboration with EASA (European Union Agency for Aviation Safety).

The 300,000e delivery made at the beginning of October

Wing initiated its first deliveries in 2019. The 300,000e was carried out at the beginning of October. According to the company, its electric drones help reduce pollution and reduce traffic congestion. However, it stresses that this is a complementary service, reserved for small deliveries, designed to complement existing supply chains.

On its site, the firm highlights above all the reliability and speed of its delivery service by drones. The average duration of these would be about fifteen minutes, the fastest having been carried out in two minutes and forty-seven seconds.
