Winter holidays: reservations in ski resorts up sharply

This four-week period begins on Friday. Industry professionals predict an occupancy rate of 82%, higher than the same period in 2020.

Ski resorts have seen a surge in bookings for the four-week winter holiday and forecast an occupancy rate of 82%, compared to 79.5% in the same period before the 2020 crisis linked to the Covid-19, sector professionals said on Thursday.

The improvement envisaged on the pandemic front, the return of international customers and the enthusiasm of the French for the mountains may suggest encouraging prospects for the end of the season.“, said in a press release Jean-Luc Boch, president of the National Association of Mayors of Mountain Resorts (ANMSM). For its part, the National Observatory of Mountain Stations adds that the “good trends“for these holidays, which begin this weekend, are explained first”thanks to French customers“.

Return of international customers

Bookings for the last week of the holidays (February 26 to March 5) in particular have increased by 36% compared to the 2019-2020 season. The return of international customers is also contributing to this revival, with the return in particular of British holidaymakers. Their absence from French stations due to the epidemic outbreak and travel restrictions had been noticed during the holiday season and the month of January with a decline in their presence of around 50%.

For the month of February, international reservations are expected to increase but will undoubtedly remain below those of the 2019-2020 season due to a very late restart of tourist activity», nuance the Observatory. “Everything has been done to welcome holidaymakers, adults and children, in the best possible conditions, in compliance with health measures.», adds Jean-Luc Boch.
