Without revolutionizing the already convincing recipe of the Xtreme 2, the Xtreme 3 offers some welcome updates, both in form and substance. It remains a safe bet for outdoor use thanks to its robustness and boundless energy. However, it is difficult for us to recommend this speaker over a more versatile, more efficient Sony SRS-XB43… and significantly more affordable.
Strong points
- Powerful and energetic sound.
- Very robust construction, water resistance (IP67).
- Multipoint Bluetooth.
- USB ports for charging up to two devices.
Weak points
- Significantly degraded listening quality at high volume.
- Imprecision in the bass.
- Overall rendering a bit sparkly.
- Still no command to go back to the previous track.

More imposing, but much more capable than its little sister SRS-XE200, the SRS-XE300 retains everything that was good about the small model (robustness, endurance, handling), while remedying certain musical defects that the SRS- XE200 faces. Although it still remains a good step behind the excellent SRS-XB43, this SRS-XE300 is a highly recommendable transportable speaker for anyone who would like to add sound to a room in their house or an outdoor terrace.
