Styling can be a challenge on cold days. We say hello to the onion look and reveal what defines the layered look.

“There is no bad weather, only bad clothing!” – the first sentence that flies around your ears when you complain to your grandparents about the cold. That’s right… but that doesn’t mean that we have to do without stylish looks. The “onion principle” in layering keeps us warm and flexible: If it’s not as icy as expected, we simply take off a layer. But how do you do that without looking and feeling bulky?

Styling: These layers belong in the layered look

1. Styling starts with the underwear

And with the right underwear. There is a lot to consider here: because there are several shifts, the likelihood of sweating increases – especially when we travel a lot or switch between inside and outside. After the shower, a deodorant that you trust! Reach for cotton panties to keep the intimate area fresh. The fabric is breathable, which means that no moisture builds up. This is important because otherwise it serves as a breeding ground for fungal infections or leads to unpleasant odours.

2. The golden onion look rule: from thin to thick

Golden rule: It is better to have several thin layers than one thick one. We start with a base layer, which is at best made of cotton, as described above. This is followed by the thermal layer, which can be a sweater, for example. Then a suitable coat for insulation, i.e. as protection against rain and wind. The heat is stored by the different layers, at the same time the penetration of moisture is additionally prevented.

3. Various textures, patterns and lengths

The beauty of layering is that our summer and spring wardrobe can blend seamlessly with winter style. This applies not only to light fabrics, but also to bright colors. Pink shirt dress? Not an issue: gray oversized knit sweater over it, chic flared jeans, and black sock boots. Also works with the satin pants from the last beach vacation. By mixing different fabrics such as cotton, new wool and silk, it gives a monochrome look a noble depth.

4. Warm feet

It also quickly gets uncomfortable underneath with several layers. So that everything sits without pinching, it is better to choose tights that are one size too big than one that is too small! A pair of short sports shorts also protects your kidneys and you can bend down without hesitation if you are wearing a skirt. And of course: don’t forget your socks. Not a fan of tights? Then the thermal leggings under the wide jeans will also do. Complete your look with the right boots. Especially with winter boots, in which several layers are worn, it doesn’t hurt to take one size larger so that everything has its place.
