With a helicopter to the hospital – ice climber falls three meters into the rope – injured

Serious leisure accident on Sunday in the Tyrolean Pitztal: A German (39) slipped while ice climbing with a crampon and fell three meters into the rope. The injured were rescued by helicopter and flown to the hospital.

The 39-year-old German climbed the Luibisboden Icefall in the municipality of St. Leonhard in the Pitztal together with a companion (31). It then happened when setting an ice screw in the upper part of the tour. “The woman slipped with a crampon, lost her footing and fell about three meters into the rope,” the police said. Companion prevented another fall. The fall was ultimately held by her rope partner – but the alpinist still sustained injuries to her left ankle . The woman was rescued by the emergency helicopter and flown to the hospital in Zams.
