The latest Android TV 14 beta revealed a rather interesting novelty.

The operating system will indeed allow you to enjoy video calls directly from the living room TV.

New on the side of Android TV

While the mobile version of Android 14 never stops revealing its secrets through successive betas, it’s Android TV’s turn to unveil some interesting new features to come. The very latest version confirms Google’s desire to make Android TV televisions a videoconferencing space.

The feature was brought to light by Mishaal Rahman, and in the guts of Android TV 14 it reads: Call notifications only appear when you are in your personal user profile on this TV. “From the settings of the user, the latter will therefore be able to take video calls directly on his TV without having to draw his smartphone.

Video calls soon on the big screen also at Apple

This feature will boost the possibilities (already very wide) offered by our Smart TVs. Video calls will obviously take advantage of the TV’s built-in camera, mic and speakers.

The first beta version of Android TV 14 also contains several other feature updates, including HDR-related controls, but also new energy management functions, or even improved management of audio devices.

On the side of Apple, remember that the American giant has also recently formalized the integration of FaceTime within tvOS 17. Users will be invited to participate in more immersive conversations with their loved ones, directly on their television, thanks to their Apple TV 4K box.
