The French start-up Artifeel is launching Check’in, an autonomous alarm box which, once installed, requires no user intervention. It works continuously and incorporates artificial intelligence to recognize intrusions.
Surveillance systems make it easier to go away, but their installation is often tedious, as is their use. It is on the basis of this premise that the French start-up Artifeel, supported by the Bouygues Telecom group, created Check’In. This smartphone-sized box brings together the main elements of a surveillance system and relies on artificial intelligence to facilitate configuration.
It is also very simple to install: it sticks under the lock of the front door with the double-sided adhesive tape provided and, thanks to batteries and a low-consumption 4G connection, does not require a power outlet or wifi. . Check’In is therefore guaranteed to operate during power cuts.
No need to arm-disarm the system thanks to AI
Once the Check’In box has been installed, simply switch it on to start monitoring. Sensors allow it to record the vibrations of the door, which are then interpreted by artificial intelligence which constantly learns from the habits of the user to define a “standard of use” and refine its efficiency.
The system thus operates continuously, without the need to arm and disarm it. The user is warned in the event of an anomaly (door not locked or closed, forgetting the keys in the lock, etc.), and Check’in can also trigger its siren and connect to a remote monitoring center if it recognizes an attempt to intrusion — a microphone and a loudspeaker are provided.
Easy to use, but still limited
As intelligent as it is, Check’in nevertheless remains limited by the absence of additional sensors and can only observe the entrance where it is installed. Artifeel therefore recommends it especially for upstairs apartments, since the risk of intrusion through a window is then reduced, but its 4G connection can also make it an interesting solution for second homes without an Internet connection or simply to monitor a garage or a garden shed out of wifi range. For houses, we should rather wait for the second version, presented in all likelihood in 2023.
The first Check’in box should be available from March for professionals and from May for individuals, at the recommended retail price of €349. A price of 299 € had been envisaged at the start, but it was, according to Artifeel, not enough to cover all the associated costs, in particular for remote monitoring since two years of services are included with the box.
These services will be invoiced at €8.90 per month after these two years and include the automatic dispatch of batteries. The start-up has also provided artificial intelligence to predict their wear and undertakes to provide new ones just before the previous ones reach the end of their life – autonomy is estimated at at least two years. If, however, users were not satisfied with the services at the end of these two years, Artifeel undertakes to buy back their box for around thirty euros.
