With its new 80 series, Honor puts the package on the photo

It is this November 23 that Honor has chosen to unveil its novelties during a Chinese event rich in announcements. With the Magic Vs, a particularly ambitious folding model, the brand also presented the three 5G models that make up the Honor 80 range, all running Android 12. With the latter, the manufacturer is trying to position itself in several different segments.

The Honor 80 SE is the most affordable model of the three. It stands out quite clearly from the rest of the range, and offers a fairly common design.

It has a 6.67-inch curved Amoled panel displaying Full HD + (2400 x 1080 pixels), with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Under the latter, there is a MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC coupled to 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. We can therefore expect decent performance in multitasking and gaming.

In photos, a triple photo sensor is at the controls, consisting of a 64 Mpx main module whose lens opens at f / 1.8, a 5 Mpx ultra wide-angle (f / 2.2) and a macro module of 2 Mpx (f / 2.4). At the front, it’s a 32 Mpx (f / 2.4) module that will take care of selfies. Autonomy is ensured by a 4600 mAh battery compatible with fast charging at 66 W.

The Honor SE is available for pre-order for 2,399 yuan, which equates to around €325 (excluding tax). Sales will begin on December 9 in China. As with the rest of the range, release dates in the rest of the world are still unknown.

An ambitious standard model

The Honor 80 is a little more ambitious and sports a design in line with previous models. We thus find two circular photo islands that seem to blend into each other.

The slab is similar to the SE model, but this is not the case of the SoC which animates it. Honor has opted here for the Snapdragon 782G, Qualcomm’s brand new mid-range chipset. Heir to the very good Snapdragon 778G, it should be able to offer solid performance in its price segment. Here again, we are entitled to 8/12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

For the photo, the firm relied on a 160 Mpx main sensor whose lens opens at f / 1.8. We can’t wait to see the results in the lab. It is accompanied by a 5 Mpx ultra-wide-angle module (f / 2.2) and a 2 Mpx (f / 2.4) macro sensor. It has the same 32 Mpx sensor as the SE version for selfies. The 4800 mAh battery is also compatible with fast charging at 66 W. Enough to refuel in less than an hour.

The Honor 80 is announced for pre-order for 2699 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately €365 (excluding taxes). We certainly do not know its final price for Europe, but it could be a very good value for money.

A Pro version that forgets nothing

The Pro version is logically the most successful. And its technical sheet has indeed something to impress. On the back, the two photo islands benefit from a pretty metal strapping reminiscent of the number 8, an allusion to the range.

Its 6.78-inch 120 Hz Oled panel seems a little more curved, but it is also more defined (437 ppi, 1224 x 2700 pixels). It is said to offer a maximum brightness of 1000 nits and a sampling rate of up to 1920 Hz, ideal for gaming.

That’s good, it comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, one of the most powerful SoCs on the market. Everything is flanked by 8/12 GB of RAM and 256/512 GB of storage.

The brand leaves nothing to chance in the photo. This model stamped Pro takes the 160 Mpx sensor from the Honor 80 and accompanies it with a 50 Mpx ultra-wide-angle module whose lens opens at f / 2.0 and a 2 Mpx macro sensor. At the front, it is a duo composed of a 50 Mpx module and a 2 Mpx depth sensor which will officiate for selfies.

Honor is once again relying on a 4800 mAh battery rechargeable at 66 W to power everything.

The mobile is available for pre-order for 3499 yuan in 8/256 GB, which is equivalent to approximately €475 (excluding taxes). The 12/512 GB version costs around €555 excluding VAT.

The Honor 80 and 80 Pro run Android 12 with the MagicOS 7 overlay. They are available in black, green, blue and pink.
