Danny DeVito made Mara Wilson world famous as “Matilda”. After more than 25 years, he has another project in mind with her.

US director and actor Danny DeVito (78) plans to appear again with “Matilda” actress Mara Wilson (36). But not in the cinema or on television, but on the concert stage with the New Jersey Philharmonic Orchestra, DeVito reveals in an interview with “The Messenger.”

“Matilda in Concert” was originally scheduled to open at the State Theater New Jersey on September 9th of this year due to the strike by screenwriters and the actors union SAG-AFTRA but pushed backwards. There is no fixed date yet, but the director is confident: “We’ll try to make it happen soon, because it looks as if the strike could end soon – at least I hope so!”

Reunion after over 25 years

It would be a big appearance for the two actors after 25 years in a double act. “Everyone involved was really looking forward to the joint performance in September and we are disappointed that we have to postpone it,” the orchestra wrote on its website on September 9th. The announcement goes on to say that there is great anticipation for the performance at a later date.

The American film comedy “Matilda” became an established Christmas classic in 1996 and is one of DeVito’s best-known productions. The film tells the story of the exceptionally gifted child Matilda (Mara Wilson), whose parents are not interested in her and do not notice her talent. The story is based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl (1916-1990), published in 1988.
