With MeshNet, NordVPN transforms its VPN into a P2P network

NordVPN now offers secure access to remote devices with its new mesh network option, which promises to be simple to set up to link up to 60 devices together.

NordVPN announces the integration of a new feature into its service: MeshNet, a mesh network that allows you to connect to other devices in a secure way.

With this option, NordVPN thus gives its users the possibility of using the physical address of another terminal of their choice rather than that of a VPN server of the company.

This solution is based on NordLynx, NordVPN’s in-house protocol that builds on WireGuard technology by adding additional layers of security.

To activate and use the NordVPN mesh network, you must associate the devices you want to connect to. You can do this easily from the application if the terminal in question belongs to you. Otherwise, just send an invitation to another NordVPN user to connect to their machine.

A mesh network supporting up to 60 devices

With mesh network routing, your remote devices can share the same IP address. MeshNet acts as an encrypted virtual LAN, which allows for example to create virtual LANs and play online with friends, regardless of their location.

With this new system implemented by NordVPN, it also becomes possible to access files stored on a remote terminal. From your smartphone, shared files on your computer become accessible. The local web server you set up can also be used for collaborative work, allowing other users to connect to access resources.

Devices on which you have installed the NordVPN app and for which you have activated MeshNet are linked together automatically. You can add up to ten. But the mesh network can support up to 60 terminals altogether, since 50 external devices using another NordVPN account can also be supported.
