The C500 Pro camera recently enriched Xiaomi’s catalog, but it did not arrive alone. In addition to this interior model, the Chinese giant has also launched an exterior model under the reference CW400. The Outdoor Camera CW400, by its full name, is logically positioned above the AW300, and offers not only better defined images, but also motorization. This is a first for a Xiaomi outdoor camera, and a welcome addition.
360° vision and 2K video
More precisely, the Smart Camera CW400 is equipped with two motors which allow it to be rotated and tilted remotely. Combined with the optics’ 113° field of view, these engines should allow observation up to 360° horizontally and 160° vertically. As for the sensor, we are dealing here with a 4 Mpx model for images up to 2560 x 1440 pixels, i.e. 2K – or 2.5K for Xiaomi, which speaks of 2K from 3 Mpx . It’s a little less than for the C500 Pro, but probably the same sensor as in the C400.
Of course, infrared vision is provided for the night, and there are even projectors to enjoy color images. However, remember that infrared vision generally allows you to benefit from a much better range.
Regardless, the CW400 also promises to be able to distinguish people to filter alerts, and above all limit false alerts. Unfortunately, automatic tracking of people is not mentioned and it therefore seems that this camera is incapable of activating its motorization to keep an intruder in the frame by filming him when he crosses the garden, for example. Good point, on the other hand, surveillance recordings do not necessarily incur additional costs since a microSD slot is provided to store them. You will only have to pay to store them in the Xiaomi cloud.
The CW400 can of course also record sounds using a microphone and also gives the possibility of responding live with a loudspeaker. Finally, access to the camera and its images is via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and its IP66 certification means that it can be installed outside without the risk of bad weather damaging it. The CW400 is already available for sale. It was launched at a price of €69.99.
