Certainly still discreet in the world of smartphones, in the Western market at least, Huawei is focusing much more on the areas of computing, audio and touchscreen tablets. The brand has just unveiled a wave of new devices, such as FreeClip headphones in an original format to say the least, but also a new generation MateBook D16 in the world of PCs. Added to this is a tablet, the MatePad Pro 13.2, which is positioned as an uncompromising tablet, intended to be as comfortable with productivity as with creation and entertainment.
On the display side, Huawei is banking on a large 13.2-inch Oled panel, its largest format to date (its predecessors did not exceed 12.6 inches), and displaying a definition of 28,880 x 1920 pixels, with maximum brightness announced at 1000 cd/m². This screen is compatible with the brand’s M-Pen stylus (3rd generation, promising recognition of more than 10,000 pressure levels), which is however not supplied with the device straight away. This is also the case with the Smart Magnetic Keyboard, a keyboard to connect to the tablet, also available as an option, to transform the device into a work tool.
The tablet is powered by Huawei’s operating system, HarmonyOS 4.0, and also relies on an in-house chip – the Kirin 9000S – without a 4G or 5G modem; the manufacturer’s usual compromises therefore remain in place, and Google services are not included in the device, even if it is possible to go through alternative portals or through the GSpace environment to overcome this impossibility. The chip is accompanied by 12 GB of RAM and rather generous storage, amounting to 256 GB or 512 GB.
On the photo side, the MatePad Pro 13.2 is complete, including a double back module (13 megapixels for the main sensor, 8 Mpx for the ultra wide-angle module) as well as a 16 Mpx front sensor accompanied by a dedicated ToF sensor depth measurement. Four microphones are included to facilitate video exchanges, and six Huawei Sound compatible speakers promise to offer “totally immersive audiovisual entertainment”. The tablet, let us finally point out, is powered by a 10,000 mAh battery compatible with 88 W charging.
Finally, count on an introductory price of €999.99, for availability in early 2024, with pre-orders for the MatePad Pro 13.2 starting on January 8. A price that makes this tablet the most expensive in the Huawei catalog; as a reminder, the MatePad Pro 12.6 from 2022 had a starting price of €800.
