According to information from the site 9to5Google, Google would release its future Pixel Watch 3 in two formats, notably allowing better autonomy on the larger model.

While Google is a major player in the world of connected watches thanks to its Wear OS system, the manufacturer has only been offering models since 2022 with the Pixel Watch, then the Pixel Watch 2. If these watches have managed to seduce thanks to their design very minimalist, they nevertheless suffered from a major flaw: their unique format.

Indeed, whether it is the first or the second model, the two watches were only offered in one version in terms of size, with a diameter of 41 mm. For comparison, Samsung does offer a Galaxy Watch 6 in a 40mm version, but the watch is also available in a 44mm format. The same goes for the Apple Watch Series 9, offered in a 41 mm version and a 45 mm format.

This unique small format is not without problems on Pixel Watches. Besides the fact that the watch is mainly suitable for small wrists and less interesting for fans of large watches, this small format does not allow a larger battery to be integrated. Whether it is Samsung or Apple models, larger formats generally allow the integration of larger batteries, with models with greater autonomy. However, autonomy is precisely the weak point of Google’s watches, which struggle to exceed a day of use when competing models can expect 36 or even 48 hours of use.

A Pixel Watch 3 also expected in a 45mm version

However, it seems that Google is not satisfied with this one and only format. According to information obtained by the site 9to5Googlethe firm is preparing a second format for its next connected watch, the Pixel Watch 3:

According to our source, the larger of the two Pixel Watch 3s will be 45mm, which should present a significant difference on the wrist. This larger size could correspond to the Apple Watch Series 9. Samsung offers its Galaxy Watch 6 in 40 and 44 mm while the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is offered in 43 and 47 mm.

We will still have to wait to find out more about the second Pixel Watch format. The Google Pixel Watch 3 should not be launched before the fall, at the same time as the future Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro smartphones. However, Google is no stranger to teasing and could always take advantage of its Made by Google conference, scheduled for spring, to give a first glimpse of its future connected watch.
