In its quest to strengthen the security of its Chrome browser, Google now intends to focus on education. The American giant has just rolled out a new tool to help users configure their privacy settings in the Google Chrome browser, in the form of a guided tour.
This new Google Chrome privacy guide walks users through their privacy settings. It was developed by engineers at Google’s Security Engineering Center (GSEC), the company’s global center for privacy and security engineering.
“Soon you’ll see a new card for the Privacy Guide in the ‘Privacy and Security’ tab of your Chrome settings, which you can find by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner of your browser.” on the side of Google. The guide includes explanations about cookies, syncing history, safe browsing, and improving searches and browsing. Google says it may add more settings to the guide based on user feedback.
2.5 billion users
As a reminder, Chrome now has over 2.5 billion users and is by far the most widely used desktop browser. The Privacy Guide was designed to keep this large online user base safe by offering more information about each of Chrome’s security settings and how they affect the browser.
The privacy guide will be available in the coming weeks for users of version 100 of Chrome on the desktop. Users should see a record about it in the “Privacy and security” tab of Chrome’s settings.
Changes made to settings through the guide will be saved. Meanwhile, users can perform security check by typing the URL chrome://settings/safetyCheck in the address bar, which displays available security updates, weak or violated passwords, protection against malicious extensions, and whether Google’s Safe Browsing service is enabled.
