The company bought by the French specialist in connected health publishes an application offering sports lessons and nutrition programs.

Withings is determined to offer a more complete experience to its customers with a range of services designed around its various devices.

8fit: a subscription giving access to sports lessons and nutrition advice

The French brand has been offering various products for several years to measure physical activity, such as the Withings ScanWatch connected watch, or to record health data such as weight and BMI with Withings Body Cardio connected scales.

To complete the data analysis, Withings probably lacked something on the services side, pushing the company to buy 8fit, a German start-up, for an amount not disclosed by the stakeholders.

The offer offered by 8fit consists of different sports courses, with fitness exercises suitable for everyone. The service asks for several pieces of information, such as the weight or the age of the user, in order to concoct a personalized program adapted to his physical condition.

The subscription, billed at €59 per year after a 14-day free trial, also includes balanced cooking recipes to improve your diet. 8fit now has 40 million total users.

Towards a younger clientele with a subscription focused on well-being

Withings wishes to integrate this subscription into its ecosystem of products in order to reach a younger and lifestyle audience, which wishes to go further than simple health measures, as Eric Carreel, Founder and President of Withings explains: “ […] we need to add to our expertise services and advice that are easy to adopt, which are specifically designed for our users and which allow them to stay motivated on a daily basis, to be in good shape throughout their lives or even to prevent health problems. health “.

This approach has been adopted by several players and not the least, such as Apple, which has been offering its Apple Fitness+ service in France since the end of 2021, a platform linked to the Apple Watch which offers sports lessons with the integration of health data retrieved by the connected watch.

To support its entry into services, Withings announces that it wants to invest 30 million euros over three years, a sum which also includes the acquisition of 8fit. According to the press release shared by the company, this offer could see the light of day in the course of 2022.
